What is Li-Fi ? | Internet over LED lamps | Future Technology

I hope you guys are known about Wi-Fi that can let you communicate with several devices or with the Internet using radio frequencies. But, with the Li-Fi technology you can do the same with 10 times faster speed and more securely with no interference.
So...

What is Li-Fi ?

Li-Fi stands for Light Fidelity. It works with the VLC(Visible Light Communication) technology that operates in between 380 nm to 700 nm frequency of visible light. I think you are all aware of LED bulbs. If we give a certain amount of energy input we get a certain amount of output from it. If we varies the energy level of input, the output will also be varies. With this concept the Li-Fi technology works. It uses variation in the brightness level of LED bulbs to transmit data through light. It uses a Li-Fi driver to encode data through LED bulbs and uses a solar sell receiver or Li-Fi receiver to receive the information encoded into light.

In the above picture, this is a Li-Fi receiver. As you know guys, the speed of light is very fast as compare to radio waves. So, the communication speed with Li-Fi is far away fast from the speed of Wi-Fi. It is proven that the speed is almost 10 times faster than Wi-Fi in laboratory.

The another major point is the security. Li-Fi technology is more secure than Wi-Fi. As you know, radio waves can go through walls and the wifi technology is based on radio waves. So, your neighbor can get access to your wifi connection and he can perform man-in-the-middle attack and can get your personal information via wifi.

But with the Li-Fi it won't be happen; because you know that light waves can't go through walls. Hence, the connection is limited to your room only and no question of getting hacked.

With the Li-Fi technology, there'll be zero interference using it. With the wifi a big issue is the interference using the connection. If many wifi networks are present in one place and the number of users of that connection is high, the you may face low network speeds or break down sometimes due to interference. But with Li-Fi it won't be happen. Because the wavelength of light is so high and it operates between 380 nm to 700 nm. So, the matter of interference is no more with the Li-Fi.

It can also witch connection between different bulbs respect to the position of the user. So, the problem of range will be no more with the Li-Fi technology. The biggest advantage with the Li-Fi technology is that it works with the existing infrastructure and need no extra power to work.

But it is now in it's prototype stage and will be the future technology very soon. It has many possibilities and workings beyond the imagination. In my next blog I'll discuss about the possibilities of that technology.
